Copynotes: St Andrews copy at s PR2358.A1D58 Copy 1: Some pencil lines throughout both volumes marking the text. St Andrews copy at s PR2358.A1D58 Copy 1; Bound in late 18th or early 19th century sprinkled calf on pasteboards, with a small floral motif tooled in gold around both boards; five raised bands on the spine, with the compartments elaborately tooled in gold; with dark red leather spine label (Spencers Fairy Queen) in second compartment, and red leather volume label in third compartment; all board edges tooled in gold. Vol. 1 has been rebacked in the 20th century. Condition notes: Vol. 1: Spine has been rebacked and corners repaired; both boards rubbed; white marks to lower board; occasional light foxing to text block. Vol. 2: Upper board almost detached; lower joint split; corners very rubbed and bending inwards; lacks tailcap; both boards rubbed.
Editionnotes: The portrait is an engraved illustration at the head of p. [v] Engravings signed "Lud du Guernier inv: et sculp.". Dedication to Queen Elizabeth from Spenser on recto of leaf A2 in vol. 1. "Advertisement" on leaf c4. Glossary in vol. 2, p. 484-496. Text and signatures continuous in vol. 1 despite pagination. Pages 239 and 335 of vol. 1 misprinted 29 and 353; p. 379 of vol. 1 misprinted 37.
